Dear Saint Hedwig family and friends,

We're taught the words of fair play at a young age. Playground phrases like “tit for tat” or “even steven”. We must give back an equal share to what we have received. Marcy shares her cupcake today. Tomorrow we share our cookies. These schoolhouse manners are meant to be behavioral guidelines throughout our adult lives.

Too bad the rules are wrong. “Even steven” doesn't cut it in the kingdom of God. In the parable of the talents, servants are expected to use their coins to make a profit for their master. When one servant returns exactly what he received, one lowly coin, he's cast out. The message is painfully clear. God isn't looking for a fair return on his investment, he's looking for more. When He gives us a gift, we're to use it daily, building the kingdom brick by brick. If we bury our talents, or use them only for ourselves, we will surely be paid in the same coin. God will shun us as we have shunned his gifts. Take a moment this week to ask yourself, am I a good investment for God's wealth or just a fair return? ©Copyright 2008 C L Enterprises
